The first Accolade for the Santa Margherita Wine Group’s new U.S. Subsidiary

Filippo Mazzei was an Italian man of letters and entrepreneur and a close friend of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. He was the person who brought the cultivation of vines to Virginia and also helped Jefferson to write some of the cardinal points of the United States Constitution. This was the cultural reference chosen by the U.S. Ambassador to Italy, John R. Phillips, at the beginning of the awards ceremony organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy.

This carefully chosen and aristocratic reference underlined the strength and unique character of the special relationship between the two countries, testified to by the “Wine Excellence Award” conferred on Santa Margherita for its seventy years of commitment to the United States market and the launch of its new import company in Miami.

The awards ceremony took place in the historic and striking Sala degli Arazzi in Palazzo Barbieri, Verona’s City Hall.
